بمناسبة حلول العام الجديد 2019 عُقد يوم الخميس الموافق 27 كانون أول 2018 اللقاء الرسمي التقليدي لرؤساء الكنائس المسيحية في القدس في المقر الرئاسي لرئيس دولة إسرائيل بحضور رئيس الدولة السيد روفين ريفيلن.  

في هذا اللقاء القى رئيس دولة إسرائيل السيد روفان ريفلين بحضور وزير الشؤون الداخلية في إسرائيل ، السيد أريئل درعي ، كلمة أمام رؤساء الكنائس والوفود المرافقة لهم ، متمنياً لهم لعام 2019 الصحة والسلام والازدهار، وشدد على أهمية هذا اللقاء لا سيما في مدينة القدس المقدسة مدينة الأديان ، والتي شهدت العام المنصرم أحداث عنف. وأضاف أن تسعى إسرائيل إلى حماية الحجاج في الأراضي المقدسة ، كما هو الحال في نهر الأردن ، حيث تم  عملية إزالة الألغام في المنطقة المجاورة لدير القديس يوحنا المعمدان, وانه ليس لدى إسرائيل أي نية للتدخل في شؤون الكنائس.

غبطة البطريرك كيريوس كيريوس ثيوفيلوس الثالث بطريرك المدنية المقدسة أورشليم ألقى كلمة أمام رئيس الدولة ورؤساء الكنائس:

“Your Excellency Mr. President,

Your Excellency, the Minister of the Negev,

Your Beatitudes,

Your Eminences,

Your Graces,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We are delighted to extend to you, Mr. President, on behalf of the Churches and Christian Communities of the Holy Land, the greetings of this holy season, during which our Abrahamic traditions are celebrating important festivals, and during which time so many pilgrims come to this City and Holy Land for spiritual renewal.

Very soon the eyes of the Christian world will be turned to the Jordan River, as Christians remember shortly after the Christmas Feast the occasion of Our Lord’s baptism. We shall gather at the Jordan River with both the local Christian Community as well as with pilgrims from around the world at Qasr El Yahud.

We wish to take this opportunity to thank you, Mr. President, for your personal interest in, and your commitment to, the project of clearing the minefields at this site, and for making this site accessible after so many years. We also express our appreciation to the army for their important role in coordinating all the parties in completing this tremendous undertaking.

Mr. President, even as we celebrate this wonderful accomplishment, hindrances remain.

One particular challenge that we have managed to resist several times now, the last occasion having been achieved with Your Excellency’s courteous intervention, must be faced head on.

Certain Members of the Knesset, who we believe are misled, moved once again to propose to the Ministerial Committee for Legislation the discriminatory bill which restricts the rights of Christian Institutions to deal with their property and threatens the income that sustains the humanitarian mission of the Church, along with its care for the Holy Sites.

We are thankful to the firm support of our friends both in Israel and around the world, who, in spite of the inconvenient timing, came immediately to our assistance. We are sure that their support will not fall, should this legislation be pushed forward again.

Your Excellency, we are grateful for your gracious intervention and for the wise approach of Prime Minister Netanyahu in causing this bill to be withdrawn. This action is consistent with your commitments to preserve the long-standing Status Quo and to sustaining the unique multi-religious tapestry of our beloved Jerusalem.

While thankful for this reprieve, we are deeply concerned that attempts to bring this legislation forward will continue. We shall therefore remain actively attentive to this matter, and convinced that this Bill has no place in the corpus of legislation of the State of Israel. We reiterate our readiness for dialogue to find lasting solutions that benefit the whole society. Yet, at the same time we stand united in our position both to defend our legitimate and sacred rights, as well as to continue that constructive engagement with governmental authorities that has been formed and shaped over the many years.

We do not seek our own benefit, but that of the mission that has been entrusted to us by Divine Providence; to serve the Holy Places and witness to this land of the divine-human encounter – that is our common sacred history. Jerusalem is the universal symbol of peace to which the whole world looks for reconciliation and mutual flourishing. It is unique in its existence as a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-religious community that is home to the three Abrahamic faiths. Jerusalem is the spiritual heart of the world that is longing for truth, light and righteousness.

As we read in the Psalms

Our feet are standing

within your gates, O Jerusalem.

Jerusalem-built as a city

that is bound firmly together.

(Ps. 121[122]:2-3)

We join with you in your official commitment to preserve this multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, and multi-religious character of Jerusalem, and we applaud your steadfastness to our harmonious mutual flourishing. As a Jerusalemite yourself, you understand well that Jerusalem is a unique paradigm of the human community, in maintaining cultural and religious traditions that live peacefully side by side. We welcome the support that your give to ensure that Jerusalem maintains this essential character.

We take this opportunity, Mr. President, to wish you and your family a Happy New Year. Μάϊος God bless you in your work on behalf of all the peoples of our beloved Holy Land.

رعى جلالة الملك عبدالله الثاني يوم الثلاثاء الموافق 18 كانون أول 2018، بحضور الرئيس الفلسطيني محمود عباس و سمو الأمير الحسين بن عبدالله الثاني، ولي العهد، في مركز الحسين الثقافي اليوم الثلاثاء، احتفال الكنائس بمناسبة عيد الميلاد المجيد ورأس السنة الميلادية.

وحضر الاحتفال، الذي ينظمه مجلس رؤساء الكنائس في الأردن رؤساء كنائس القدس والأردن وممثلون عن الأوقاف والهيئات المقدسية وعدد كبير من الشخصيات المسيحية الرسمية والشعبية من مختلف محافظات المملكة.

وقدم جلالة الملك، بهذه المناسبة، التهنئة لأبناء وبنات الأردن وفلسطين، وجميع المسيحيين العرب، بالأعياد المجيدة.

وألقى ممثلو كنائس وأوقاف القدس خلال الاحتفال كلمات قالوا فيها إن عيد الميلاد المجيد يجسد السلام والمحبة، ويذكر بأهمية السلام العادل لكل البشر وترسيخِ الأخوة والعيش المشترك.

وأضافوا أن الأردن، بقيادة جلالة الملك، سيبقى الحصن المنيع في الدفاع عن القدس ومقدساتها، مؤكدين أهمية الوصاية الهاشمية على المقدسات الإسلامية والمسيحية في القدس الشريف التي تشكل درع حماية وامتدادا للعهدة العمرية. 

وأكدوا أنه لا بديل عن حل الدولتينِ لتحقيق السلام بحيث تكونَ القدسُ الشرقية عاصمة دولة فلسطين، مشيدين بتبرع جلالة الملك بجزء كبير من قيمة جائزة تمبلتون، التي تسلمها جلالته الشهر الماضي، لإعمار كنيسة القيامة. 

وثمنوا عاليا جهود جلالة الملك الدولية والتي نتج عنها مجموعة قرارات لليونسكو تدعم الحقوق الثابتة للشعب الفلسطيني في المسجد الأقصى ومدينة القدس.

وفيما يلي كلمة غبطة البطريرك ثيوفيلوس الثالث بطريرك المدينة المقدسة وسائر أعمال الأردن وفلسطين، التي ألقاها نيابة عنه سيادة المطران خريستوفورس عطاالله، مطران كنيسة الروم الأرثوذوكس في عمّان:

فأنتم يا صاحب الجلالة، ملكَ الأردنِ العزيز، صاحبَ الوصايةِ على المقدساتِ الإسلاميةِ والمسيحيةِ في القدسِ الشريفِ بما فيها القبرِ المقدسِ وبطريركيةِ الروم الأرثوذكس المقدسية، هذه الوصايةُ التي تُشكِّلُ دِرعَ حمايةٍ وامتدادٍ للعُهدةِ العُمَريةِ التي تَمت بين البطريركِ صفرونيوس والخليفةِ عمرُ بن الخطاب. ونحنُ على العهدِ معكُم وبكُم باقونَ وعلى العهدةِ العمريّةِ محافظونَ إلى أن يرثَ اللهُ الأرضَ.

صاحب الجلالة المعظم

إنَّ عيدَ الميلادِ المجيدِ هو عيدُ تَجسّدِ السلامِ والمحبة، المحبةُ التي هي ثَمَرَةُ التنازلِ الإلهي الممزوجُ ببذلِ الذات والتواضعِ التامِ وإخلاءِ الذاتِ مِن أجلِ مصالحةِ الإنسانِ مع اللهِ والقريب، لكي يعمَّ السلامُ الآتيَ من فوق، من السماءِ، والساكنُ في قلبِ الإنسان. فلا سلامَ على الأرضِ بدون سلامِ القلبِ ونقائهِ، ولا يمكنُ حبُّ الله بدونِ تَجسُّدِ هذا الحبِّ بمحبةِ القريب، محبةِ الإنسانِ لأخيهِ الأنسان مهما كان ومن أينَ ما كان.

فالميلادُ المجيدُ يُعلِّمُنا أن نرى اللهَ في وجهِ كلِّ إنسانٍ على الأرضِ وأن نُحبَّهُ.

ولهذا وُلِدَ المسيحُ بالجسدِ، مِن امرأةٍ عذراءَ (سيدتُنا مريمُ البتول)، واختارَ أن يُولدَ في مذودٍ للبهائمِ، في مغارةٍ متواضعة، في مدينةِ بيتَ لحمَ الصغيرة. وأولُ مَن سَمِعَ تسابيحَ الملائكةِ مِنَ السماء، مُبشرينَ بمَولِدِه هم رُعاةُ بيتَ ساحور البسطاء، ومَن قَدموا لهُ الهدايا هم المجوسُ الغرباء، وأولُ مَن دافعَ عنهُ هم أطفالُ بيتَ لحمَ الشهداء.

فبولادةِ السيدِ المسيح في بِلادِنا المُقدسَةِ ومعموديتِه التي تَمت في نهرِ الأردن، عندنا هنا في الأردن، انبعثت ولادةٌ جديدةٌ للبشريةِ جمعاء، وأُسِّسَت مفاهيمٌ روحيةٌ كونيةٌ غيرت مجرى التاريخِ إلى الأبد.

ونحن اليومَ نحتفلُ معكم بعيدِ الميلادِ المجيد، الذي يُذكِرُنا بأهميةِ السلامِ وحاجةِ المجتمعاتِ البشريةِ الماسةِ إليه. نرفعُ نداءَنا إلى جميعِ ذوي النوايا الحسنةِ في كلِ أرجاءِ العالمِ للعملِ مِن أجلِ السلامِ العادلِ لكل البشر وترسيخِ أواصلِ الأُخُوَةِ والعيشِ معاً. فنَقبَلُ الآخرَ وخصوصاً المحتاجَ وننفَتِحُ عَليهِ بِروحِ المحبةِ فنصغيَ لهُ ونَقبَلُهُ ونَمُدُ لهُ يدَ المساعدةِ لنساهِمَ في تعزيزِ روحِ الأخوةِ والمحبةِ لا روحِ الانغلاق والانعزال. واحتفالُنا بالميلادِ المجيدِ يقاسُ بمقدرتِنا على الحبِّ واستقبالِ الآخر والتضامنِ والوحدة.

جلالةُ الملكِ المُعظّم

السيداتُ والسادة أبناءُ الأسرةِ الأردنيةِ الواحدة

إنَّ كنيستَنا الأرثوذكسيةُ المقدسيةُ أمُّ الكنائسِ هي الكنيسةُ المحليةُ في بلادِنا المقدسةِ وهيَ ممثلةٌ ببطريركيةِ الرومِ الأرثوذكسِ بموجبِ القوانينِ والأنظمةِ الكنسيةِ وحتى الدولية. ومن هنا وانطلاقاً من موقعِنا الروحيِّ والرعائيِّ في جسمِ الكنيسةِ الجامعةِ ننبهُ من خطورةِ تعاليمِ ومواقفِ البدعِ والهرطقاتِ الّتي تأتي باسمِ المسيحيةِ. فالمسيحيةُ منها براءٌ، وخصوصاً تلكَ الفئةِ التي تسمّى بالمسيحيةِ الصهيونيةِ التي تتبنى معتقداتٍ وتعاليمَ بعيدةً كلُّ البعدِ عن المسيحِ وتعاليمهِ. حيثُ تنشطُ هذهِ المجموعاتُ الزائفةُ على مِنصّاتِ حوارِ الأديانِ وتعطي صورةً مشوهةً عن إيمانِنا المسيحي. وهيَ تعكفُ على استغلالِ منتدياتِ التلاقي بينَ الأديانِ من أجلِ تزييفِ وتشويهِ التاريخِ وإعطاءِ من لا يملكُ لمن لا يستحقُّ. ونحنُ في كنيستنا الروميةِ الأرثوذكسيةِ نحذّرُ من خلطِ الأوراقِ وتشويهِ العقائدِ بما يحقّقُ مآربَ الباغضينَ والمتآمرينَ، فما تعانيهُ كنيستُنا من اعتداءاتٍ على أملاكِها وأوقافِها في القدسِ وفلسطينَ هوَ جزءٌ من هجمةٍ ممنهجةٍ على جميعِ كنائسِ القدسِ.

إذ تتّخذُ هذهِ الهجمةُ عدةَ أشكالٍ: من فرضٍ للضرائبِ، إلى محاولةِ مصادرةٍ للممتلكاتِ، وإرغامِ أبنائِنا على دراسةِ المناهجِ الإسرائيليةِ. كما تعرّضت أكثرُ من خمسينَ كنيسةٍ لحرقٍ وتكسيرٍ بشعٍ على يدِ ما يُدعى جماعاتِ تدفيعِ الثّمنِ اليهوديةِ منذُ عامِ ألفٍ وتسعمائةٍ وسبعٍ وستين. وللأسفِ، تبقى حملةُ الاستهدافِ مستمرةً، الأمرُ الذي يستدعي جهداً مضاعفاً من جميعِ كنائسِ العالمِ كي تلتفَّ حولَ وصايةِ جلالتِكُم لحمايةِ القبرِ المقدّسِ وحمايةِ الأماكن المقدسة وكنائسِنا التاريخيةِ في الأراضي المقدسة. وقد عبّرنا نحنُ وجميعُ كنائسِ الشرقِ الأوسطِ عن موقفِنا الثابتِ بأنَّ أساسَ السلامِ في القدسِ هوَ أن تبقى كنيسةُ القيامةِ للمسيحيينَ وحدَهُم كما هوَ المسجدُ الأقصى للمسلمينَ وحدَهم.

كما نودُّ أن نؤكّدَ، وباسمِ جميعِ كنائسِ الأراضي المُقدّسةِ بأنَّهُ لا بديلَ عن حلِّ الدولتينِ وأن تكونَ القدسُ الشرقية عاصمةَ دولةِ فلسطين. وهذا هوَ أبسطُ حقوقُ الشعبِ الفلسطينيِّ المظلوم، والتي إن استمرَّ العالمُ بتجاهُلِها سنشهدُ المزيدَ منَ الصراعِ الدينيِّ والتطرفِ والاعتداءِ على حقوقِ الآخرين.

مليكنا المحبوب

في هذا الزمنِ الصعبِ والحروبِ والمآسيَ التي تحدثُ في الدولِ المجاورةِ، وفي خضمِّ معاناةِ الإنسانِ اليوميةِ والخوفِ المتزايدِ في قلوبِ الناسِ من المجهولِ الآتي. كم كانَ الإحساسُ جميلاً والمشاعرُ جياشةً مليئةً بالثقةِ والحبِّ والأملِ عندما حصلتُم على جائزةِ تمبلتون للوئامِ والسلامِ، فهذا زادَنا فخراً واعتزازاً وحبّاً لجلالتكم، فقابلتُم العطاءَ بكرمٍ هاشميٍّ أصيلٍ ينمُّ على حرصِكُمِ المعهودِ على المقدساتِ حينَ تبرّعتُم بجزءٍ كبيرٍ من هذهِ الجائزةِ لإعمارِ كنيسةِ القيامةِ وأنتم تبرزونَ للعالمِ أجمع الصورةَ الحقيقيةَ للإسلامِ ونموذجاً فريداً للعيشِ المشتركِ وإصرارِ زعيمٍ عظيمٍ على حفاظه على النسيجِ الوطنيّ السليمِ والحقيقيِّ في مملكتِهِ.

فعملُكم هذا يا صاحبَ الجلالةِ، وأداؤُكم لمهامِّكم في وصايتِكم ورعايتِكم لمقدساتِنا الإسلاميةِ والمسيحيةِ لهو خيرُ مثالٍ للعالمِ على الجهادِ الحقيقي، ودرسٌ للجميعِ بأن يؤديَ كلٌّ عملَهُ على أحسنِ وجهٍ.

جلالةُ الملكِ المعظمِ،

ونحنُ إذ نعايدُ جلالتَكم وأبناءَ الاسرةِ الهاشميةِ والأردنيةِ بمناسبةِ عيدِ الميلادِ المجيدِ ورأسِ السنةِ الميلاديةِ نرفعُ أدعيتَنا وصلواتِنا الى الربِّ الإلهِ من أجلِ الصحةِ والتوفيقِ لجلالتِكُم لتواصلوا مسيرتَكم المباركةَ وأن يديمَ علينا نعمةَ الأمنِ والاستقرارِ ويحفظَ أردننا الغاليَ وجيشنا العربيَّ الباسلَ وكلَّ الساهرينَ على أمنِ واستقرارِ الوطنِ متمنّينَ لكلِّ أبناءِ وبناتِ الوطنِ العزيزِ كلُّ نعمةٍ وبركةٍ.

دُمتُم ودامَ الأردنُّ مباركاً إلى الأبدِ، آمين”.

وتلى كلمة غبطة البطريرك, كلمة سيادة الكاردينال بيير باتيستا بتسابالا المدبِّر الرسولي وبطريرك اللاتين في القدس, وكلمة سماحة الشيخ عبد العظيم سلهب رئيس مجلس الأوقاف الإسلامية.

وتضمن الاحتفال فقرات فنية وثقافية من أداء جوقة ينبوع المحبة، وأوركسترا المعهد الوطني للموسيقى، وعدد من الفنانين.

وحضر الاحتفال رئيس الديوان الملكي الهاشمي، ومستشار جلالة الملك، مدير مكتب جلالته، وقاضي القضاة، ومفتي المملكة، وعدد من كبار المسؤولين وقيادات وشخصيات مسيحية وإسلامية في الأردن وفلسطين.

بعد الإحتفال إستضاف جلالة الملك عبدالله الثاني بن الحسين جميع المشاركين في الإحتفال على مادبة عشاء.

As a year that was particularly tough for the Christians in the Middle East comes to a close, the senior-most Church leader, Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem, visited the United Kingdom this week at the invitation of The Dean of Westminster Abbey and His Royal Highness Prince Charles, to spread awareness and offer a message of hope.

On Tuesday morning at Lambeth Palace, Archbishop Justin Welby welcomed Patriarch Theophilos III and his entourage, Archdeacon Markos, Ms. Anna Koulouris from the Patriarchate’s English communications office, and the Executive team of the International Community of the Holy Sepulchre (ICOHS), to give a briefing on issues surrounding the preservation of Christian presence in the Middle East as well as issues pertaining to the Holy land, including the Status Quo. In the spirit of the upcoming Feast of Christmas, the two Church leaders emphasized the importance of hope, prayer, and pilgrimage.

While the Patriarch attended a private session at Clarence House with Prince Charles and other senior Christian leaders from the Middle East, his entourage participated in meetings at Westminster Central Hall with politicians, faith leaders, and select NGOs; identifying major areas of opportunity and need, such as education, channels of communication with the international community, refugee work in Jordan, and ways to empower local leaders to discourage intolerant behavior and exclusionary or radical movements within their respective regions.

In the evening, Patriarch Theophilos attended a service event at Westminster Abbey in London, presided by the Dean of the Abbey, celebrating the contributions of Christians in the Middle East. The service was attended by various senior church representatives from around the Middle East. His Royal Highness Prince Charles delivered remarks concerning the importance of the Christian presence in the Middle East and their vital, consistent contributions to peace and reconciliation. As the representative of the Christian Churches of the Holy Land, Patriarch Theophilos delivered subsequent remarks, calling to mind our shared yearning for divine-human encounter, which the Holy Land uniquely offers, as well as the need to protect this sacred place for all humankind. so my soul longs for you, O God.”  (Ps 42:1)

 The yearning of the human heart and soul for union with God is the most fundamental of all longings.   The Scriptures are full of this yearning, and we have heard some of these words sung beautifully by the choir in this service:   As a deer longs for flowing streams, so my soul longs for you, O God.

 The Holy Land is the place where our sacred history was first revealed, and where this yearning of the human heart and soul for union with God found and continues to discover its divine-human encounter.    The Christians of the Middle East are among those who bear this sacred history, and the testimony of this divine-human encounter, in their very lives and witness and they feel this deeply.   The Holy Places that have been entrusted to us by Divine Providence are the spiritual oasis, “the flowing streams” as the Psalmist says, that refresh the soul.

 It is not possible to conceive of OR POSSIBLY to really understand the Middle East without understanding the place that Christians hold in our region.   We are natives of the land, a land that has been watered not only by the blood of many martyrs, but by the blood of the righteous one, Our Lord Jesus Christ himself.   From the revealing of the Church at Pentecost in Jerusalem until now, Christians around the world have called this region their spiritual home, and it is very important to us that this home is kept open to all.

 We rejoice in the multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, multi-religious landscape of the Middle East, and we delight in the richness of the heritage that has helped to shape world history and civilisation.   There is room for all in our region, and we are the heirs of a spirit of mutual respect, mutual understanding, and mutual affection that we strive to form and shape our common life together.

 Being honest, ‘though, this long tradition today is under huge pressure.  The Christian community in particular is facing unprecedented challenges and difficulties that the rest of the world cannot ignore.  The Patriarchate of Jerusalem, which is the Mother of all Churches, along with the other Churches and Christian communities of the region, are committed to the well-being and flourishing of the Christian presence not for ourselves alone, but for the sake of our society, and for the sake of the world, and all who look to the Holy Land in hope.

 “As a deer longs for flowing streams, so my soul longs for you, O God.”

 As we gather in this great and historic church to celebrate the contributions of Christians in the Middle East, may we remember that we gathered not for reasons of politics or economics, nor for any human purpose.   We gather because we are inspired by the most fundamental longing, that great yearning of humankind for union with God.   The Martyria; that is the witness of the Christians of the Middle East keeps the way to that longing for God open to all.  Amen.”

The light recently shed on the crucial role of Middle East Christians and the contemporary threats they face, has sparked further interest across a variety of domains, including within faith organizations, NGOs, government, and academia. In response, Patriarch Theophilos attended a series of other London events, including a Parliament session in which he discussed points of concern at length with members, and explored ways for the UK to contribute positively to the situation. He also delivered a statement and conducted an interview with Premier Christian Radio, covering challenges to the Holy Land’s Christian community, topics of spirituality, advice for young people, and a message of hope for the Christmas season.

Patriarch Theophilos concluded the week by speaking at the London School of Economics Faith Center, where he discussed the witness of the Christians in Jerusalem and the Holy Land, followed by a conversation with university students, faculty, and other experts from the community. A range of topics were explored including how to respond to political conflict in the region, the declining population of indigenous Christians, spirituality in modern times, and how to nurture courage and hope.

في اليوم الثالث من زيارة غبطة البطريرك كيريوس كيريوس ثيوفيلوس الثالث لرومانيا, وبمناسبة ذكرى توحيد الشعب الروماني كأُمة رومانية اورثوذكسية واحدة, أقيمت خدمة صلاة المجدلة الكبرى في باحة كنيسة الثالوث القدوس في مدنية ألباجوليا يوم السبت الموافق 1 كانون اول 2018 حيث ترأس الخدمة أصحاب الغبطة كيريوس كيريوس ثيوفيلوس بطريرك المدينة المقدسة أورشليم و غبطة بطريرك الكنيسة الرومانية كيريوس كيريوس دانيال بحضور حشود كبيرة من المصلين رغم الطقس القارص.

غبطة بطريرك الكنيسة الرومانية ألقى كلمة بهذه المناسبة باللغة الإنجليزية: 

“Let us defend and cultivate national freedom and unity as expressions of the dignity of the Romanian people”

The Great Union in Alba Iulia, since which we celebrate 100 years today, on DECEMBER 1, 2018, is the celebration of freedom, unity and dignity of the Romanian people, gained through many sacrifices and sufferings.

The War of Romanian Unification (1916-1919), as Romanians have called their participation in the First World War (1914-1918), aimed to unify all Romanians into one national state, “following centuries of sufferings endured in a Christian manner” with faith, patience, and hope.

The achievement of national unity on DECEMBER 1, 1918, was also possible with the contribution of the Romanian Orthodox Church, which supported the Great Union of all Romanians. The Church was together with the people in every effort to cultivate national consciousness and to affirm the wish of national unity, in all Romanian provinces, but particularly in Transylvania, Bessarabia, and Bukovina.

Through prayer, through speech, by printed books, with the personal presence and the concrete action of its servants, the Church was active in the unification process, involved in the achievement of this ideal through learned hierarchs, patriotic priests and deacons, theology professors and students with oratory, persuasion and mobilization skills, but also through monastics who have taken care of the wounded soldiers, in monasteries and parishes that organized money and food collections, all of them together morally encouraging and materially helping the Romanian fighters for national freedom and unity.

During the 1916-1918 Unification War, more than 250 Romanian Orthodox priests accompanied the troops of the Romanian army on the battlefields as military confessors. Some of them died on the front, others were taken prisoners and deported. Over 200 monks and nuns worked as nurses in various campaign hospitals or on the front, some dying on duty because of typhus exanthema. Hundreds of priests were investigated, robbed or expelled from their parishes by the enemy, others died after being shot in the territories occupied by German troops. In Transylvania, over 150 priests were thrown into the Hungarian prisons, some of them being sentenced to death or years of imprisonment. More than 200 priests were deported to Western Hungary, in Sopron County, where they lived in inhumane conditions until their release in 1919 by Romanian troops (Ref. Rev. Prof. Mircea Pacurariu, History of the Romanian Orthodox Church, 3rd ed. In Romanian: Basilica Publishing House, Bucharest 2013, pp. 471-473).  

Regarding the Great Union in Alba Iulia, on DECEMBER 1, 1918, the 1228 official delegates in the Constituent National Assembly included many Church servants. The two Romanian Churches in Transylvania (the Orthodox and the Greek- Catholic Churches) were represented in Alba Iulia by five bishops, four vicars, ten delegates of the Orthodox consistories (diocesan councils) and Greek-Catholic collegiate chapter, 129 deans, one representative of theological-pedagogical institutes, and two representatives of the students of theology, adding many other priests who came leading their believers to seal the century-long desire of the Romanian ancestors to live in one country without oppression.

Church servants were elected in the Great Council of the Romanian nation, as well as in the Conducting Council, while the Romanian Orthodox bishop Carasnebes, Miron Cristea, who later became a Primate Metropolitan (1919), and then the Patriarch of Greater Romania (1925), as well as the Greek-Catholic Bishop of Gherla, Iuliu Hossu, were elected as members of the four-person delegation who presented the Union Act to King Ferdinand in Bucharest.

Now, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Great Union of Δεκέμβριος 1, 1918, we want to pay homage of gratitude to all those who contributed to the achievement of the greatest ideal of our history.

As an act of commemoration of the 1918 Great Union founders, on this Centennial anniversary, on NOVEMBER 25, together with His Holiness Bartholomew, Archbishop of Constantinople and Ecumenical Patriarch, and the hierarchs of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, we consecrated the Romanian People’s Salvation Cathedralor the National Cathedral in Bucharest, a symbol of Romanian spirituality and unity, which draws together the love for God of a Christian, sacrificial, and generous nation and the gratitude we permanently owe to the National Heroes.

We are all called to keep and cultivate the gift of national freedom and unity as a symbol of the dignity of the Romanian people, acquired with many human sacrifices and many spiritual and material efforts!

For all the benefactors of the Great Union, we thank today the Most Holy Trinity, the Protector of the Coronation Cathedral in Alba Iulia, and we gratefully remember all Romanian heroes who sacrificed themselves for the freedom, unity and dignity of the Romanian people.

Today, all Romanian citizens have the duty to keep and cultivate not only the gift of freedom, but also the gift of national unity, as a symbol of the dignity of the Romanian people, in dialogue and cooperation with all peoples of the world.

بعد الصلاة أجري عرض مسرحي قرب المتحف الوطني يمثل الحدث التاريخي بإنضمام مناطق ترانسيلفانيا, فيسارافيا وبوكوفيني وتوقيع أتفاقية الوحدة مع الجمهورية الرومانية, وارتدى الممثلون الزي التقليدي الذي كان يلبسه آنذاك الأشخاص الذين قاموا بتوقيع إتفاقية الوحدة. بعدها تخلل الإحتفال أناشيد واغاني وطنية في اللباس التقليدي لعام 1918, وصلاة تقديس الماء في موضع عام 1918 حيث أقيم صليب ضخم كنصب تذكاري لهذا الحدث.

بعد الظهر تم إستقبال رئيس الجمهورية الرومانية السيد Werner Johannes في ساحة الكاتدراية في مدينة ألباجوليا , الذي توجه مع أصحاب الغبطة ورئيس البلدية للنصب التذكاري الذي يرمز لحرية ووحدة ألشعب الروماني وقام مع رئيس البلدية بقص الشريط للسماح للشعب بالبدء بزيارة الموضع.

 وبحضور رئيس الجمهورية وشخصيات سياسية وأصحاب الغبطة فضلا عن حشد كبير من الناس الذين ملأوا الشوارع وشرفات الشقق المحيطة ، أقيم أستعراض عسكري  تحت وقع موسيقى الأوركسترا العسكرية بمشاركة فرق من الجنود والدبابات ورجال الاطفاء والمدفعية والمروحيات والطيران العسكري والعديد من الأسلحة المعاصرة الأخرى.

بعد العرض العسكري أقام رئيس أساقفة الباجوليا مادبة عشاء وبعدها توجه غبطة البطريرك الى مطار بوخارست الدولي ليستقل الطائرة مع الوفد البطريركي متوجهاً الى مطار تل أبيب ومن هناك وصل سالماً الى المدينة المقدسة أورشليم فجر يوم الأحد ممجداً الله على كل شيء.

يتواجد غبطة البطريرك كيريوس كيريوس ثيوفيلوس الثاث من 29 تشرين ثاني حتى 1 كانون اول 2018 في رومانيا, كضيف مدعوٍّ من غبطة بطريرك الكنيسة الرومانية كيريوس دانيال من أجل المشاركة في القداس الالهي البطريركي الإحتفالي في الكاتدرائية الرائعة المبنية والمّدشنة حديثًا والمكرسة على إسم القديس الرسول إندراوس.

يرافق صاحب الغبطة في هذه الزيارة الرسمية سيادة رئيس أساقفة قسطنطيني أريسترخوس, سيادة رئيس أساقفة كيرياكوبوليس خريستوفوروس, قدس الأرشمندريت قسطنطين الرئيس الروحي لدير القديسين جوارجيوس ويوحنا الخوزيفيين والمتقدم في الشمامسة الأب ماركوس.

إستقبل غبطة البطريرك والوفد المرافق له في مطار العاصمة بوخارست كل من ممثل بطريرك الكنيسة الرومانية سيادة المطران تيموثيوس, الممثل السابق للكنيسة الرومانية في القدس, الوكيل البطريركي للكنيسة الرومانية الحالي في القدس الأرشمندريت ثيوفيلوس ومساعدة قدس الأب يوحنا, مسؤول قسم العلاقات الخارجية في البطريركية الرومانية الأب ميخائيل والكاهن الأب ميخائيل.

بعد إستراحة قصيرة في فندق “ماريوت” توجه صاحب الغبطة لكنيسة القديسين قسطنطين وهيلانة للمشاركة في خدمة المجدلة الكبرى وكان بإستقباله غبطة بطريرك الكنيسة الرومانية كيريوس دانيال مع لفيف من المطارنة والكهنة وحشد كبير من المصلين. والقى غبطة البطريرك كلمة شكر فيها غبطة البطريرك دانيال على دعوته للمشاركة للإحتفال بعيد القديس الرسول إندراوس.

“Your Beatitude Theophilos III, Patriarch of Jerusalem and All Palestine,

On behalf of the members of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, of the Orthodox clergy and believers in Romania, with great love in Christ, we warmly welcome you in our Country and Church!

We remember with joy the last fraternal visit you made to Romania in 2014 at the feast of the Holy Venerable Demetrios the New, Protector of Bucharest. Today, Your Beatitude, we are again together in this historical Patriarchal Cathedral, preparing to celebrate the Holy Apostle Andrew, the First-called, Protector of Romania, and now of the National Cathedral, whose altar we consecrated a few days ago.

This is the main reason for Your Beatitude’s visit this year, to concelebrate for the first time in the patronal feast of the National Cathedral, as a testimony and occasion of holy communion and missionary cooperation between our Churches.

In this light of fraternal communion and pastoral co-responsibility, we pray to God to bestow His rich gifts upon Your Beatitude, wishing you to have a blessed visit to our Country and Church, together with the accompanying delegation members!”.

بعد صلاة المجدلة الكبرى تم دعوة غبطة البطريرك الأوشليمي والوفد المرافق له على مائدة عشاء أعدها على شرفه غبطة البطريرك دانيال في مفر البطريركية الرومانية.
